RESOURCES AND IDEAS

Many of us are asking the question, "What can we do?"
Friend, fellow writer, and former diplomat, Katharine Dow recently shared some resistance tips, resources, and ideas, inspired from movements around the world. Her gracious insightfulness was so helpful, I wanted to share them with you all (with her permission).
Resistance is for all age groups and abilities:
Appreciate the power of Gen Z -- who are creative, understand what works for internet culture, and are particularly good at making slogans
Older generations and those with mobility issues will also contribute in significant ways (not just street protests), ex. in the Myanmar resistance, every night at the same time, people beat pots and pans as a reminder that things were not normal or okay and to symbolically chase away the bad spirits (ie authoritarian takeover)
Refusal to celebrate major holidays:
Visual absence of decoration (echoing the "all is not well" reminder) as well as the economic impact by withdrawing from holiday spending
Giving speeches:
This could be especially useful as shorts on social media
Diversify resistance leadership:
Don't rely on only one person!
Power of motherhood:
Mothers visually organizing and conducting strikes and protests, this is psychologically impactful!
Oversight by citizens:
Citizen led tracking and report of corrupt activities, track every single campaign/government promise and hold them accountable
Showy and/or dramatic dressing during events (like protests):
Draws attention and often draws journalist interviews
Use their own words:
Simply use direct quotes from politicians to get around suppressions
Be annoying!:
"Why not have fun at their expense?"
